As a way to start off the year strong, Nighthawk students were given the opportunity to participate in Homecoming Spirit Week! September 13th was the first day, beginning with Jersey Day. The halls were filled with all different teams from every sport you could think of. That day, Junior and Senior girls went head to head in the Powderpuff game with Juniors taking the win.
Thursday was Whiteout Day, preparing students for the Color Run and Quad Activities during 7th period. Even though some stations ran out of chalk, students created innovative ways of having fun and collecting plenty of color along the way. Friday was class colors day where the Freshman dressed in white, Sophomores in gray, Juniors in yellow, and Seniors in blue.
The pep rally ended the week in a fun, energetic way through dance battles, performances, announcing homecoming royalty, and a formal introduction of Ms. Rodriguez-Bracey. The Nighthawks lit up the stands at the game that night at Evie Dennis, and with the help of the amazing Cheer team on the sidelines and the flawless Poms at halftime, Northfield swept Denver North 21-11.
The following Monday was Rhyme without a Reason Day where our Nighthawks came to school rhyming outfits with their peers. Tuesday made us all Barbies and walk the halls in pink. Wednesday was filled with aprons, puffer jackets, and proud cheers for Soccer Mom vs BBQ Dad day. Closing off our week, we went back in time with decade day. Friday was a professional day for students and gave everyone time to prepare for Saturday.
On September 23rd, the Freshman and Sophomores fled inside at 6:30 as the staggered start times began. Students were getting bags checked and entering building 3 dressed up and ready to enjoy time with friends. However, the dance left many students wanting more. There were not a lot of decorations or picture opportunities, only half the gym was used, and the music was not danceable so a majority were left just walking around the Great Hall. Although this Homecoming was not liked by all students, it lets the team working on it know what can be improved on next year.
Well Nighthawks, that’s a wrap on Homecoming and Unity Week 2023. A HUGE thank you to the staff, volunteers, and student council members that put in the hard work to make these events happen as well as Mr. Kocher (Kocher Imaging) for taking the time to capture these special moments.
