Homecoming Week 2024

October 2024

Hello Nighthawks! As my first article of the year, I thought I'd do a retelling of this year's annual Homecoming Week and most importantly, the Homecoming Dance!

Spirt Week

Starting off with Homecoming Spirit Week! Nighthawks were decked out in their class shirts and Northfield sportswear on Monday for “Spirit Wear Day”. The following day we were seeing double with “Twin Day”. Wednesday was “Anything but a Backpack Day” where there were baskets, crock pots and coolers being lugged around from class to class. On Thursday, Nighthawks dressed up in formal attire or dressed down in pjs for “Dress Up/Dress Down Day”. Lastly, students repped their favorite football and soccer jerseys. To end spirit week with a bang, Northfield hosted a pep rally! This season’s sports were introduced, Mariachi from the was played by middle schoolers to help celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and games were played in accordance with “Futbol vs Football” day. And let me tell you, we had SPIRIT! Nighthawks were cheering loud and the gym was brimming with positive Nighthawk energy.

Sports and Games

Moving on to the games! After school on Wednesday came the Juniors vs Seniors Powderpuff Game. The Seniors snatched another win for the second year in a row, leading the game by over 10 points! Men's football energetically led their teams on the sidelines with real pep in their step. Thursday night was Northfield’s volleyball game against Golden where the Northfield girls won! Friday was the traditional Homecoming Football Game. We played Pueblo East at the Evie Dennis Stadium and earned another win.

Homecoming Dance

Lastly, the main event! Saturday was the Homecoming Dance and was an absolute blast for many students. Unlike previous years, there was unique decoration following the theme of Midnights and it was held in the cafeteria instead of the gym. A fence ensured that there was both an indoor and outdoor area for students, while still keeping everybody safe by checking IDs before entry. Due to the amount of new students this year, the line was long, but well worth the wait! The DJ put together a catchy playlist that created the perfect dancing environment. After getting tired from dancing, students could go out to the snack tent to claim their free snack and drink and cool off on the outside tables. There was even a 360 camera behind the dance floor area! Although space to decorate could’ve been maximized, this year’s Homecoming was overall a huge upgrade from last year. However, it isn’t necessarily how the dance is set up that matters most, it’s who you spend it with and what you make of it.

That's a wrap on Hoco 2024 Nighthawks! Shout out to the student council, staff, teachers, and volunteers who graciously took time to plan and execute this year's Homecoming events. You're the true heroes! In addition to this, a MAJOR thank you to the photographers for documenting the Homecoming events! It's been an honor to write about homecoming week for the second year in a row and I hope to continue this tradition for the rest of the years I’m at Northfield!
