Prom 2023: A Secret Garden

Prom is meant to be an end of year celebration for upperclassmen to close out the year with a bang. Northfield Prom is right around the corner and many people are getting ready for the big night. In order to shed a little more light on the excitement to come, I talked with Junior prom chair, Maddie Mason, and asked her some questions about the theme and the process of planning it.

As many of you may know, the theme of our prom is Secret garden. When deciding the theme, Maddie wanted to make sure that our prom was unique compared to what other schools were doing and very different that what it was the year before, allowing current seniors to have differentiation between their two proms. Originally, Maddie wanted to hold prom at the botanic gardens but after realizing that the Mile High Station was already booked, the prom committee had to switch gears. “Working with this I then decided that if we cant have prom at the gardens we should make our own! So we came up with secret garden!” She also mentioned that while the theme is important for the decorations, she wanted to choose a theme that would allow students to wear whatever style of dress or suit they wanted.

I was also curious about the process for planning prom as it must not have been easy. “[it was] some of the most fun I have had all year,” said Maddie, also commenting that all of the junior Student Council members were great at coming up with creative ideas. Even though it was a big task, Maddie is “so satisfying after searching high and low for the perfect decorations, food, etc to have everything come together.” She also said that even though prom night will be a culmination of a year's work, she is going to spend some time dancing and having a good time with the rest of the students!

Aside from the theme and the planning, there is so much for students to look forward to! Maddie thinks that “people are going to be big fans of our food of choice along with all the great snacks we have lined up” and people should also look forward to the bartender who “has some special tricks up his sleeve to make sure that it feels like you truly must be in a garden”.

Just a few logistical reminders that Maddie wanted to emphasize: Students must have a 92% acceptance rate % weeks before the prom, they must buy their tickets by may 4, have attended or been excused from the PSAT/SAT, and, if they wish to bring a person from outside of the school or an underclassman, they must get a form from the front office and fill it out.

Finally, Maddie and the rest of student council would like to remind you to “Come ready to dance and even if you don't want to… come ready to have a great time!”
